Path to quadrilingual fluency through evidence-based language acquisition
March 9, 2026
Goal
Become quadrilingual: English, Icelandic, Spanish, French.
Current Languages
- English: native-level proficiency
- Icelandic: fluent
Languages In Progress
- Spanish: active acquisition (started December 2025)
- French: planned, will begin after ~2 years of Spanish foundation
Philosophy
Maximize leverage of evidence-based approaches for language acquisition. Key principles:
- Passive recognition before production: focus on comprehension input in the early stages to increase compliance and reduce burnout. Production follows naturally once a critical mass of vocabulary and pattern recognition is established.
- Spaced repetition for vocabulary: use Anki with frequency-ordered decks to efficiently build a working vocabulary foundation.
- Comprehensible input: graded readers, tutoring, and eventually native content, calibrated to current level.
- Staggered acquisition: establish a strong base in one language before adding the next, while maintaining the first through continued immersion and tutoring.
