Reading & Audiobooks
Dual-channel reading: Icelandic text for language maintenance, audiobooks for knowledge intake
Structure
Reading serves two distinct purposes with different formats optimized for each.
Icelandic Reading (~20 minutes nightly)
Nightly reading habit in Icelandic to maintain and deepen familiarity with the language. This is deliberate practice: slower, more effortful reading that reinforces vocabulary and grammar patterns. The consistency matters more than the volume.
Audiobooks: dead time utilization
Primary knowledge intake channel. Audiobooks at 2x speed during commutes, cleaning, cooking, and other low-attention tasks. This converts dead time into learning time without requiring dedicated focus blocks.
- Split: ~70% non-fiction, ~30% fiction
- Speed: 2x playback
- When: commutes, chores, cooking, any time hands are busy but mind is free
Why This Split
Physical reading is reserved for the task that benefits from it: Icelandic language exposure, where seeing the words on the page reinforces spelling, grammar patterns, and word recognition. Everything else goes through audio because it slots into time that would otherwise be wasted.
